This week two 5th Avenue Theatre shows opened on opposite sides of the country - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in Seattle and Memphis on Broadway.
On Thursday October 15th, Joseph... starring Anthony Fedorov (pictured right with cast members Heather Apellanes and Ben Gonio) opened to a sold out crowd at our beautiful theatre in Seattle.Broadway World wrote “…there are those that say this show is overdone and nothing really new or fresh can be done with it. I was one of those people. To them (and to myself) I say, "Then you haven't seen the production at the 5th Avenue yet!"
It was an extra special night for one season ticket holder who shares his The 5th theatrical experiences with a loved one. Following the Mega Mix, Anthony Fedorov invited Arthur Patterson (pictured left with his fiance) onto the stage where he asked his girlfriend to marry him. After an enthusiastic yes, the audience went wild and headed to Palominos to celebrate the opening night. In New York, Memphis opened last night at the Shubert Theatre on Broadway! Reviews are just coming in and are very positive. Check back for more on Memphis later this week!

The music and/or singing was so excruciatingly loud, especially by Jennifer Paz, that it was hard to listen to and hearing the words was very difficult. She was way out of her range - it sounded like screaming. Also the reprise, really lacked musicality as a whole and from where I sat in the balcony, there were just a handful of people clapping along and most couldn't wait to get out.
Many thanks to Palomino for a fantastic Cast Party!
Although the four of us--season subscriber for 4 years--loved the show, the music of the orchestra was so loud and shrill it both drowned out the singers and made the words untelligible for abut 80 percent of the performance. We had not seen this show before and did not know the words. I have no idea what the Pharoh dreamed??? Fortunately I pretty well knew the overall gist of the story, but too bad I had to lose the humor in the words. At Intermission my husband shared what we were experiencing with the sound man, whos response was an emphatic and rudely spoken " I disagree! No one else has complained." Something needs to be done about this attitude. Please!!! It unfair to the performers and certainly to the audience. If this had been our first show, I don't think we would care to try again. I hope David Armstrong will read this comment! we were seated in left row S seats 6-9 steucke www.twoartist2@comcast.net
My husband and I attended the October 21st performance of "Joseph." It is a great story and the musical was visually appealing but the sound was disappointing at best. We able to make out only a few of the lyrics. We went to "Jersey Boys" and did not have that problem. Excruciatingly loud was appropriate. The "Elvis" scene was terrible.
