During the run of Sunday in the Park with George we have had the exciting opportunity to partner with local art galleries to host receptions for each night prior to the show.Events began on April 21 for the opening of Stephen Sondheim’s Pulitzer Prize winning musical. In addition to the gallery receptions, we hosted a Color and Light art exhibition featuring work by high school students and commissioned artists inspired by the Georges Seurat painting A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. The events have been a tremendous success as audience members gather to see local art and meet the artists and gallery owners who create such a rich and vibrant culture of visual arts in the Seattle area.
On April 22, Friesen hosted an incredible reception with guest artist Andie DeRoux. There were approximately 80 of our audience members in attendance and the event, catered by Le Pichet, was a wonderful evening for all!
Opening night's reception was hosted by the SAM Gallery. Many of our own commissioned artists (featured in the Color and Light Art Exhibition) attended and guests were able to meet gallery curator Barbara Shaiman and see new work by many talented local artists.
Benham Gallery hosted our fourth gallery reception night. This evening’s event included a live artist painting in a pointillist style and a show entitled, “Pinpoints and Paris,” featuring photographs from France as an homage to French post-impressionist Georges Seurat.
On April 25, patrons attended the Art/Not Terminal Gallery for drinks, food, and the local folk group Waiting for Lizzie. Jadd Davis, a familiar face on The 5th stage (Hello Dolly!, Cabaret, West Side Story) was the coordinator for the current exhibit and had a few pieces on display!
This past week our gallery receptions continued, as well as a post-show Tech Tour on Tuesday, a Fridays at The 5th workshop on Friday, and pre and post show discussions with Ian Eisendrath, Resident Musical Director, and Albert Evans, Artistic Associate, on Sunday.
TASTE Restaurant at the Seattle Art Museum, the William Traver Gallery and the Jeffrey Moose Gallery are just some of the galleries hosting events this week. If you would like to join us at these gallery receptions for this week or next, all you need is a ticket to Sunday in the Park with George and an RSVP to Amanda Morris at amorris@5thavenue.org.
For a full listing of events YOU can take part in, please visit 5thavenue.org. To learn more, read about the project at Examiner.com
We look forward to the rest of these events as we continue to connect to the local visual arts community. We hope you will join us as we continue to Connect the Dots!!!
